Muzaffarnagar riots: Victims live in fear even after one year

2019-03-01 2

It has been one year since the riots in Muzaffarnagar erupted and people are still waiting for their compensation as promised by the Uttar Pradesh Government. In fact, the sluggish pace of judicial proceedings has further disappointed affected people. The incident, which triggered one of the worst communal riots in recent years had taken place on August 27, 2013 when murder of three youths in Muzaffarnagar’s Kawal village led to the killing of over 60 persons and more than 50,000 people from both communities were forced to leave their native places.

A total of 567 FIRs were filed and several promises were made by the UP Government led by Akhilesh Yadav, which returned to power in March 2012 with a massive support of minorities, but none of the cases could reach to legal conclusion.
