In what may prove to be welcome relief for the employees of the beleagured Kingfisher Airlines, sources have indicated that Gulf carrier Etihad Airways is close to buying a 48 per cent stake in the debt-ridden airline. The official announcement is likely around the 18th of December, the 57th birthday of Kingfisher boss Vijay Mallya. The DGCA has suspended Kingfisher Airline's licence following its failure to assure the regulator of having sufficient funds to operate safely and pay its employees. Employees have been paid salaries up until May so far.
