Crib deaths are back to haunt the Malda hospital in West Bengal. Shocking news coming in as winter chill sets in. Six babies have died in govt run Malda Medical College Hospital till Monday and that brings the toll to 19 over the weekend. The hosp authorities claim the infants were brought in a critical condition from the adjoining North and South Dinajpur districts with most of them suffering from malnutrition. It is the same govt hospital which made headlines earlier too when nearly 27 crib deaths were reported at the beginning of the year. Hospital authorities who find themselves on the backfoot have cited the babies' health parameters on arrival as reasons for inability to sustain. They say babies were 'underweight and were born prematurely'.
