Supreme Court asks Centre to end deadlock over formation of Delhi govt

The Supreme Court on Tuesday demanded answers over the impasse over the formation of Delhi government.

A constitution bench headed by Justice Dattu heard the Aam Aadmi Party's plea on government formation and asked "Why should MLAs be sitting at home?"

However, government sources said that elections can only be held in December to form the government in Delhi.

The Supreme Court asked the Centre to come back with a 'positive result' in five weeks. But as a parting shot, the court asked the government to consider the plea not from the point of view of AAP, but that of a Delhi citizen who feels like he has elected a representative who's not working but still drawing a salary.

The court's comments to end the deadlock came after both BJP and AAP were unable to stake a claim to form the government.
