Cyclonic storm Nilam that hit the Tamil Nadu coast on Wednesday evening, has moved north-westwards into Andhra Pradesh, having weakened considerably into a deep depression. 12 people are reported killed and 5 people are missing after Nilam struck the historic port of Mahabalipuram, 50 kilometres south of Chennai on Wednesday evening. Emergency operations are under way around Oil Tanker M T Pratibha Cauvery that ran aground off the coast of Chennai to prevent an oil spill.
