The decision to hike the petrol and diesel prices in the country is likely to hurt the budget of the common man further even as the families in the country are still trying to factor in the rising prices of essential commodities like onions, potatoes and sugar.
The petrol price was hiked by Rs 1.69 per litre while diesel became costlier by 50 paise a litre due to the ongoing crisis in Iraq.
The Modi government's decision to hike the rail fares last week had not even settled down when the prices of onion, potatoes and sugar hit the common man.
This vicious cycle is likely to go on for some time as the diesel and petrol prices will have a direct bearing on the transportation cost of essential commodities and in turn their prices will soar further.
This when the government is still trying to figure out how to tackle the menace of hoarders as a report on Monday revealed a big difference between the wholesale and retail prices of onions in the market. And the poor customer left to bear the brunt.
