The Prime Minister along with Sonia Gandhi this morning met with key allies of the UPA to take stock of the current political and economic situation. While the official line from the government has been that the meet focused on the need for economic reforms, and measures to ensure an inflow of investments. Sources have told NewsX that the allies have expressed their objections towards the LPG subsidy cap as well as FDI. According to sources, the DMK and other allies tried their best to put the Prime Minister as well as the finance minister on the mat for endangering their collective prospects at the next elections. It is believed that the DMK has demanded that the govt withdraw the cap on LPG cylinders or at least raise it by 3-6 cylinders more, but sources tell NewsX that both the PM and FM remained firm, defending their reforms agenda stoutly.
