SC refuses to frame guidelines for reporting court proceedings - NewsX

The Supreme Court ruled that guideline for media reporting cannot be made across the board. Pointing out that in certain cases it is necessary to pass postponement orders in order to prevent the prejudicing of the order, the five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court observed that any aggrieved person can approach a High Court of the apex court in order to prevent coverage of the trial and the relevant court can pass specific order for short duration in order to prevent reporting only when there is real and substantial risk of prejudicing the trial. This issue was referred to the apex court after the leakage of certain documents to the media relating to dispute between Sahara group and market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
