There is police-public tension in Kudankulam in Tamil Nadu where enriched uranium is to be loaded in the nuclear facility this week. Close to 20,000 villagers have surrounded the Power Plant protesting against loading of enriched uranium fuel following which power generation will begin. Reports say the protesters have come within 200 metres from the plant premises with 5,000 policemen including the Rapid Action Force stopping them from getting any further. IG South Zone Tamil Nadu is said to have been making warning public announcements, asking the crowd to disperse but to no avail. The protesters feel that if the loading passes off uneventfully, then their year-long agitation against the plant will become meaningless.
