A special trial court has convicted 32 people while 29 accused have been acquitted in the Naroda Patiya massacre case in which 97 people of a minority community were killed during post-Godhra riots in 2002. The key accused in the case include former minister in Narendra Modi government and MLA from Naroda constituency Maya Kodnani, ex-VHP leader Babu Bajrangi, local BJP leaders, both have been found guilty by the court. Immediately after the verdict, the Congress demanded resignation of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi as they allege that Kodnani was a member of the BJP at the time of the 2002 riots. However, Gujarat government spokesperson Jai Narayan Vyas said Modi will not resign. Vyas admitted that Kodnani was not a minister with the BJP during the riots.He also said the party will go through the judgement and take appropriate legal advice.
