Home Minister P Chidambaram is on a visit to Jammu today... to discuss preparedness of state police and paramilitary forces ahead of a crucial summer that could see partial withdrawal of central troops from parts of the valley. Issues concerning AFSPA, including reducing footprints of paramilitary personnel from urban areas and removal of more CRPF bunkers from Srinagar will be discussed among other security-related matters during the review meeting.
It's a faceoff between the army and the J&K govt on AFSPA. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been insisting that the situation has normalized in several areas... the army claims there is no improvement in volatility.
