The Gujarat government's slapping a notice on his ashram in Surat to realise Rs. 18.3 crore rent, is just a beginning, sources say.The government maintained that the ashram had encroached on over 34,000 sq m government land in Jahangirpura. There are many complaints of encroachment by Asaram ashrams and the state revenue department has asked all its district collectors to provide the details.
Sources say the timing of the state government's step only conveys one message -- that Asaram will not get any protection even from the saffron government.
His arrest and subsequent jail stay have widely conveyed the message that the godman has lost his pull and charm which would eventually embolden his 'silenced' past victims to demand justice now.
