Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said on Thursday that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would be the next Prime Minister of India.
"I can say with full confidence (danke ki chot pe) that Narendra Modi will be the next Prime Minister of India," Sinha said at Ramgarh in West Bengal.
He added that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's breaking with the BJP was a sign of political opportunism and added that Kumar shouldn't forget that the BJP had backed him at a time when it was bigger than the JD(U) in Bihar.
Sinha however told a TV channel that this was his assessment of the political situation and that he was no one to make Modi PM.
The statement is significant as Sinha is considered close to BJP patriarch LK Advani, who had resigned from all party posts in protest against the BJP's Modi-only pitch, only to climb down a day later at the RSS' instance.
