India News: The Samajwadi party on Wednesday decided to skip the dinner which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will hold today for UPA II allies and other supporting parties.
"Our leaders will not attend UPA II's 4th anniversary dinner," senior SP leader Naresh Agarwal said. The decision to stay away from UPA revelry appears to be a well thought out move as party boss Mulayam Singh Yadav would be keen not to share any perceived anti-incumbency against the government.
The other party which is supporting the UPA 2 from outside, Bahujan Samaj Party of Mayawati may also choose to stay away from the gala dinner and send key aide Satish Mishra. However, there is no official word from the party on the same.
The UPA 2's tenure has been marked by several scams, allegations of corruption and ally trouble.
Ahead of the dinner, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will present the UPA II's report card which is expected to highlight the rollout of the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme, and foreign equity in multi-brand retail and insurance as the Congress-led UPA government's major policy initiatives.
