In this latest video, Leeds Grenville Small Business Enterprise Centre (LGSBEC) Wendy Onstein sits down with human resources consultant Tina Miles to provide some insight into starting a new business. Miles discusses some of the things she thinks are important for small business owners in Ontario, such as making use of local resources to better understand the legal requirements of owning a small business. She also talks about when to hire employees and the importance of ensuring healthy growth, which enables business owners to manage staff and operations efficiently and effectively. Onstein and Miles also discuss the process for hiring people, such as whether you’re ready to take on and train a new staff member. They also discuss the proper processes for managing employees, like what to do when they call in sick or how many sick days are allowed under the law.
