President Trump on Monday scoffed at the idea of Howard Schultz seeking the high office in 2020 by running as an independent.

President Trump on Monday scoffed at the idea of former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz seeking the high office in 2020 by running as an independent.  Trump tweeted: "Howard Schultz doesn't have the 'guts' to run for President! Watched him on @60Minutes last night and I agree with him that he is not the 'smartest person.' Besides, America already has that! I only hope that Starbucks is still paying me their rent in Trump Tower."  In the interview Trump mentioned, one of the questions asked was: "Many people are going to ask what does the coffee entrepreneur know about being commander in chief?"  "I have a long history of recognizing, I'm not the smartest person in the room, that in order to make great decisions about complex problems, I have to recruit and attract people who are smarter than me and more experienced, more skilled, and we've got to create an understanding that we need a creative debate in the room to make these kind of decisions," Schultz replied.
"I am seriously thinking of running for president," Schultz also said. "I will run as a centrist independent."
The New York Times also published a story about Schultz potentially running in 2020.
"Schultz would face a difficult road despite his considerable wealth: Few independent candidates have mounted successful challenges for the White House," the Times noted.
