The blasting process has been used for a long time for metal surface cleaning and metal restoration. Bead Blasting or Shot Peening is used for cleaning metal surface as glass beads give metal a brighter finish unlike other blasting processes like sandblasting. It also prepares metal for the plating process by giving it a consistent and rough surface, mostly required in aerospace aluminum parts.
