President Trump responded to a BuzzFeed report that alleges he told former attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.
President Trump has tweeted an apparent response to a recent BuzzFeed News report that alleges he told his former attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. Citing a quote from a Fox News personality, Trump wrote on Friday: "Kevin Corke, @FoxNews 'Don't forget, Michael Cohen has already been convicted of perjury and fraud, and as recently as this week, the Wall Street Journal has suggested that he may have stolen tens of thousands of dollars....' Lying to reduce his jail time! Watch father-in-law!" Trump suggested during a Saturday interview with Fox News that he had damaging information about Cohen's father-in-law, notes The Hill. Cohen has since reportedly been reconsidering his decision to testify before Congress in February.
The attorney was sentenced to three years in prison for charges that "included arranging hush-money payments to two women who said they had affairs with Mr. Trump, tax evasion, making a false statement to a bank and lying to Congress," according to the New York Times.
The BuzzFeed report released on Thursday had noted: "Trump directed his longtime attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, according to two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter."
