HONG KONG — According to the AFP, Hong Kong announced a proposed law to punish anyone who disrespects the Chinese national anthem with up to three years behind bars.
The bill will have its first reading in the city's parliament on January 23, but with the CCP in essence controlling parliament, passage into "law" is all but assured.
Apparently, Hong Kong has been thinking about the law ever since it tweaked legislation on the proper way and place to sing the anthem.
Rules already prohibit people from playing the greatest anthem in the history of anthems at parties, weddings and funerals. Why on earth would you want to hear that at any of those occasions?
The soon-to-be law will copy the rest of China by upping the maximum prison sentence to three years for "serious" disrespect. If they really respected the anthem they would make it five years.
The draft forbids playing the anthem "in a distorted or disrespectful way, with intent to insult." It's also a big no no to change the lyrics or tune.
Messing with the anthem could also set Hong Kongers back $6380 bones in fines.
Secretary for constitutional and mainland affairs Patrick Nip said the law would "preserve the dignity of the national anthem and promote respect." Spoken like a true CCP speakerbox.
Maybe the commies should just outlaw any thoughts remotely disrespectful to anything loosely pertaining to China.
