According to a report by Reuters, on Tuesday, India's Supreme Court ruled that Monsanto can claim patents on its genetically modified cotton seeds, widely seen as a victory for the U.S. company that is expected to encourage biotechnology firms to increase their investment in the country. Reuters reports that the decision favors foreign agricultural companies such as Bayer, which now owns Monsanto, Dupont Pioneer and Syngenta which have been concerned they could lose patents on GM crops in India.
