Business Insider reports Papa John's was the "biggest loser" of fast food in 2018. Founder John Schnatter first sparked controversy in November of 2017 when he criticized NFL leadership over players kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality. Schnatter stepped down from his position as CEO one month later.
In February, the chain announced it was ending its NFL sponsorship deal.
