Thousands of students, who were on their way to sit an exam, crowded a train in Bhiwani in northern India on December 23.

The government of Haryana had invited candidates to write a test for entry-level constabulary positions in the police department.

The response of the candidates caught everyone by surprise, including Indian Railways, who were not prepared to handle the crush.

Thousands of students crowded the Ekta Express at Bhiwani to make the 133 km journey to Panipat.

As there was no place to sit inside, many hung on the door or sat on the roof, risking their lives.
