South Korea's defense ministry has released a statement in response to Japan's claim that its patrol craft was targeted by a South Korean warship's fire-control radar. The statement released Friday evening said that the warship was not aiming at the Japanese surveillance aircraft.
A military source said the ROK Navy's vessel used its fire-control radar during a normal search operation to locate a North Korean vessel,... which had drifted into international waters near the inter-Korean sea border.
The South Korean defense ministry said it had already explained the situation to Japan, but said it would explain again to clear up any misunderstandings.
On Friday, Japanese Defense Minister Takeshi Iwaya told reporters the use of the radar could lead to a dangerous misunderstanding.
