Prosecutors in Spain Accuse Shakira of
Tax Evasion The singer was originally named in the "Paradise Papers" leaks, which detailed the offshore tax arrangements of numerous
high-profile individuals. New charges claim she failed to pay
14.5 million euros ($16.3 million)
between 2012 and 2014. During those years, Barcelona prosecutors allege Shakira listed the Bahamas as her residence for
tax purposes. She was living in Spain with her partner, Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique, and the couple's two children. Prosecutors claim Shakira's travel abroad was for short periods while most of the year she stayed in Europe. The filing goes on to say that she owes at least 19.4 million euros in taxes.
