President Trump Nominates William Barr for Attorney General At a recent press pool, Trump called Barr a
"highly respected lawyer" by both
Republicans and Democrats. President Donald Trump, via press pool Barr held the Attorney General role under President George H.W. Bush
from 1991 to 1993. At the time he also oversaw
Robert Mueller, who then lead the
Justice Department's criminal division. The 68-year-old Barr will now take charge of Mueller and the
special counsel's investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.
