The Bush family's funeral plans for former President George H.W. Bush include keeping the memorial events and service free of anti-Trump sentiment, reports the Washington Post. According to the Post, which spoke with a former administration official, the family "contacted the White House this past summer to say that President Trump would be welcome at the funeral, scheduled Wednesday at Washington National Cathedral, and to assure him that the focus would be on Bush's life rather than their disagreements." One person described as being "close to the preparations" did note, "It's interesting, though, that praising the Bushes or McCain risks sounding critical of Trump even when Trump's in no way part of the thinking." Notably, the funeral for the late Senator John McCain in September, a frequent target of the current president, took a decidedly anti-Trump tone during the eulogy delivered by his daughter Meghan McCain. She said, in part, that the "America of John McCain has no need to be made great again because it was always great." Meghan McCain also commented on the "cheap rhetoric from men who will never come near the sacrifice [John McCain] gave so willingly."
