Florida Suing Walgreens and CVS Over Opioid Sales The Sunshine State is alleging they added to the opioid crisis both in Florida and the United States by overselling painkillers. Florida claims the two largest drugstore chains weren't taking precautions to stop illegal sales. Attorney General Pam Bondi added the companies to a state-court lawsuit filed against several opioid distributors. According to the lawsuit, Walgreens has dispensed billions of opioid dosages from its Florida pharmacies since 2006. CVS spokesman Mike DeAngelis called the lawsuit "without merit." About 45 people die nationally each day because of opioid overdoses, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
