Indian President Ram Nath Kovind held talks with Australian leaders on Thursday aimed at improving trade and investment ties between the two countries. Kovind, the first Indian president to visit Australia, was given a ceremonial welcome at the Sydney residence of Australian Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove. He also met Prime Minister Scott Morrison. After their talks, Kovind and Morrison attended an Indian community event in the western Sydney suburb of Parramatta, to witness the unveiling of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi.
