In the year 9177 or so - let's just say thousands of years from today, and not worry about such minor details - the whole world (and according to some authors, the entire universe as well) has been reduced to one tall building doing administrative work. Around the building are the rather filthy suburbs where the nasty, unemployed people live - the riffraff of the cosmos. So starts this lovely story!
