Legendary Marvel comics creator Stan Lee dies aged 95

LOS ANGELES — Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee passed away this week.

A representative for his family told the Hollywood Reporter that Lee died early Monday morning at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He was 95.

Lee was the man behind much of Marvel's superhero roster. He co-created many iconic characters including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Hulk, Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, Daredevil and so much more.

A statement by Lee's family the Hollywood Reporter read: "Stan was an icon in his field. His fans loved him and his desire to interact with them. He loved his fans and treated them with the same respect and love they gave him."

Many took to social media to pay tribute to the legendary comic book writer, including
Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. He wrote on Instagram, "I owe it all to you. Rest In Peace Stan"

In a post on Marvel.com, the company and their parent organization Disney paid tribute to Lee, writing: "Marvel and the entire The Walt Disney Company salute the life and career of Stan Lee and offer their undying gratitude for his unmatchable accomplishments within their halls. Every time you open a Marvel comic, Stan will be there."
