India inaugurated the world’s tallest statue on Wednesday, October 31, with tight security in place due to an outcry by local groups over the high cost of the 182-metre (600-ft) sculpture of independence hero Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The statue is almost twice the height of New York’s Statue of Liberty (which is 93 metres or 305.1 feet) and dwarfs Hong Kong’s Big Buddha (34 metres or 111.5 feet).
