Four motor racing legends created a buzz at the circuit on Monday (24th) as they turned up for the first test session ahead of the 72nd Members' Meeting.

The four -- recently announced as GRRC 'House Captains' - treated us to our first sight of Group One Touring Cars being driven at Goodwood in anger, reminding us that the Gerry Marshall Trophy will be one of the highlights of what promises to be an outstanding race meeting at the end of March.

Jochen Mass (Darnley House) took Simon Diffey's BMW 2002ti, Emanuele Pirro (Torbolton) piloted John Young's Ford Capri 3.0S, Nicolas Minassian (Aubigny) drove Kevin Doyle's Mazda RX7, and Anthony Reid (Methuen) wrestled with Nigel Garrett's Chevrolet Camaro Z28. The cars summed up the diversity of the Group One category beautifully; the BMW screamed, the Capri howled, the RX7 cackled and fizzed, and the Camaro thundered. Roll-on the 72nd Members' Meeting where these four will be joined by a full grid packed with Rover SD1s, Triumph Dolomites, Minis, Fiestas, and more. This is going to be spectacular.

Amongst the other runners and riders preparing for the meeting were David and Matthew Green with their 1963 MGB Roadster, Mike Youles in his 1962 TVR Grantura MkII, and Guy Harman in the wonderful NART-liveried Sunbeam Harrington Alpine . Despite a head gasket issue (TVR) and a fuel delivery and trunnion problem (Sunbeam), the day seemed to be successful; each car being prepared beautifully as you'd expect.

Add to the mix a pair of Type 35 Bugattis and a rare Attila-Chevrolet to name just a few of the other machines at Goodwood yesterday, and you have some of the ingredients which will make up one of the most diverse and spectacular race meetings to take place ever in the UK... and we haven't seen any of the F1 Turbos, Group B rally cars, or LeMans prototypes here yet!
