In 1992-93 Russia invaded Georgia, a "friend" country that was also a member of the CIS. The massacred civilians in a brutal short war. This is what the "Donbass" of Georgia looks like now.. It has no economy, broken social services, and the population is constantly dwindling down. Before the war, the region had a population of almost 550,000 people. It has dropped to less than 240,000 now and most are in a sad, decrepit state.
