According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told his Chinese counterpart that the world's two largest economies needed to deepen high-level ties in order to navigate tension and rein in the threat of inadvertent conflict. Mattis, and China's Defense Minister Wei Fenghe, reportedly made no remarks as they shook hands at the start of their talks at a regional security conference in Singapore.
