문 대통령 교황 단독 면담 진행중; 김정은 초청 메세지 전달 할 듯
President Moon Jae-in, on a five-nation tour of Europe is believed to be meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican as we speak.
For the latest on that high-profile session, we connect with our Cheongwadae correspondent Shin Se-min.
Se-min, any of the updates on the meeting?
Still no updates on that one-on-one,... but here's what we know.
President Moon went into the meeting at noon, local time,... so that's 7PM Korea time.
According to the schedule, the two were supposed to have a one-hour meeting,... but the presidential corps here at the press center in Rome have yet to hear whether the meeting has ended.
The meeting between was to include a private conversation with only translators in the room.
As the president has already said,… he would be passing on to Pope Francis an invitation from North Korea's Kim Jong-un… to visit the regime's capital of Pyeongyang.
Kim said he would "ardently welcome" the Pontiff, should he visit.
The Pope's stance on a visit to the North is still unclear,... but he is expected to travel to Japan next year.
There's not only the Pope's potential visit,... but also the issue of getting support from the head of the Roman Catholic Church for the peace drive on the Korean Peninsula.
After their conversation,... the President will be meeting with the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, President Moon's last schedule before leaving for Belgium.
He will have checked off three of the five countries on his tour,… and the remainder of the president's trip will take him to the Asia-Europe Meeting, or ASEM, in Brussels and the P4G Copenhagen Summit in Denmark.
