U.S. President Donald Trump's pick for the U.S. Supreme Court has angrily and tearfully denied allegations of sexual assault.
Brett Kavanaugh said the claims made by university professor Christine Blasey Ford were false, adding his confirmation process had become a "national disgrace".
"This whole two week effort has been a calculated and orchestrated political hit fueled with apparent pent up anger about President Trump and the 2016 election…... This grotesque and coordinated character assassination will dissuade confident and good people of all political persuasions from serving our country….."
Ford testified during Thursday's hearing that she was "100 percent" certain that Kavanaugh was the one who sexually assaulted her during high school.
Kavanaugh was careful not to denounce Ford, saying he didn't doubt the professor may have been sexually assaulted by someone in some place at some time, but he insisted he had never assaulted her or anyone.
