Air Niugini Airplane Crashes in Chuuk Lagoon

An Air Niugini airplane overshot the runway as it attempted to land at Chuuk International Airport on Weno island in Chuuk state, in the Federated States of Micronesia, and crashed in the nearby lagoon on Friday, September 28, officials said.

Thirty six passengers and 11 crew members on the flight were safe, according to Jimmy Emilio, Chuuk airport manager, who was interviewed by Guam’s Pacific Daily News. Credit: Akang San via Storyful
