U.S. President Donald Trump has accused China of trying to meddle in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
He made the claim as he opened his UN Security Council speech on Wednesday.
Ro Aram has the details.

President Trump said China is working to interfere in November's elections because of the escalating trade war between the two superpowers.

"…………Regrettably, we found that China has been attempting to interfere in our upcoming 2018 election, coming up in November, against my administration. They do not want me or us to win because I am the first president ever to challenge China on trade and we are winning on trade. We are winning at every level…….."

However, President Trump provided no evidence to support his claim and China immediately rejected the allegation.

"……..I need to point out that China has all along followed the principle of non interference in other countries domestic affairs. This is a tradition of Chinese foreign policy. Our observance of this principle has received acclaim from the international community. We do not and will not interfere in any countries in domestic affairs. We refuse to accept any unwarranted accusations against China."

Trump later tweeted photographs of extracts from a local newspaper in the key battleground state of Iowa.
Trump claimed China had placed what he called propaganda ads.
The commentary in the four-page section said American farmers were suffering due to President Trump's trade policies.
