Hillary Clinton has suggested that President Trump could, in fact, be indicted for any illegal activity he may have committed before being sworn into office.
During an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" Friday, the host asked her if the president can be the subject of a criminal investigation, and she said, "absolutely."
And when he asked if a president can be indicted, she admitted there is no clear-cut answer before saying, from her perspective, "if you're not president and you've committed a crime, you should be able to be indicted."
Clinton then told Colbert that being indicted for "something that happened in office" is "a tougher question because the Constitution has a specific remedy, which is impeachment."
The debate over whether or not a sitting president can be indicted has intensified amid special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing investigation into possible ties between President Trump's campaign and Russia.
