Activists marching in defense of the use of the Spanish language in Catalonia on Sunday, September 16, faced opposition from a pro-independence counter demonstration. The two groups were kept separate by police in central Barcelona.

The march was organized by a group called Hablamos Español, which opposes the use of the Catalan language in public schools in the region, TV3 reported.
