The storm surge from Hurricane Florence left streets in the waterfront town of Belhaven, North Carolina, submerged on Friday, September 14, after the storm made landfall early that morning.

The National Hurricane Center said the “life-threatening inland flood hazard” in the Carolinas would continue for days, even after the storm had passed.

More than 1.7 million people in Virginia, North and South Carolina were told to evacuate ahead of Florence’s arrival.
