Myrtle Beach stood eerily quiet on Tuesday, September 11, with carnival rides stopped and businesses boarded up as Hurricane Florence tracked closer to the Carolina coast.

This drone video, shot by Robbie Bischoff, shows the scene that evening.

The Category 4 storm has prompted 1.5 million residents to evacuate from the Carolinas to Virginia, with many schools and government centers shut to provide shelter. Many reported barren shelves at grocery stores and long lines for gas as the storm drew closer.

According to authorities, Florence is expected to make landfall near Wilmington, North Carolina, on Thursday.
