Police in Auburn, Washington, appealed to the public for help identifying three young men they say robbed a gas station store clerk as he collapsed on the floor with a medical emergency on September 8.
Security footage released by police shows an adult male and two teenagers enter the store. One of the teenagers grabs what appeared to be two pepperoni sticks and hands one to the second teenager, and both begin eating them, police said. The adult male then approaches the counter to pay for an item which leads to a dispute over the payment for the pepperoni sticks. One of the teenagers hands the clerk a bill, but the dispute continues. The clerk, visibly upset, then walks out from behind the counter and continues arguing with the teenagers.
Suddenly, the clerk suffers what appears to be a medical emergency, collapsing into a display stand and onto the floor. The three males look at the clerk on the ground, and the teen takes the dollar bill back from him. The same teenager then tries to access the cash register, climbing over the counter and appearing to take an item before he runs out the door. Moments later, he returns, walks over the collapsed clerk and again tries to access the cash register. He takes another item from behind the counter and leaves.
He then returns a third time with the second teenager who successfully opens the cash register. The pair grab wads of cash before fleeing the scene.
“While the clerk was on the ground dying, neither of the three subjects who saw him fall to the ground called for help,” police said. “Currently the store clerk is still alive but in critical condition.” Another customer entered the store three minutes later, called for other people to call 911, and started performing CPR on the clerk, according to KOMO News.
