A 36-year-old Norwich man received a 16-month prison sentence and 40-month driving ban in a Norwich, UK, court on September 10 after fleeing police and ramming a police vehicle twice during a high-speed chase on February 1.
Norfolk Police said the chase started after they received reports of two burglaries in the north of the county and were alerted by a witness to a vehicle linked to the crimes. This dashcam footage shows police catching up with the car at a supermarket in Fakenham, where two passengers flee the vehicle. The driver of the car then reverses, ramming into the police car, before leading them on a high-speed chase through country roads.
The 20-minute-long chase was abandoned when the driver again reversed, ramming the police vehicle for a second time, and pulled into the grounds of Taverham Hall School, about 20 miles southeast of Fakenham. “The car was found crashed on Marriotts Way with several stolen items found nearby which had been thrown over a hedge,” police said.
The suspect, Shady Coates, was later identified and arrested on April 24. He was sentenced for dangerous driving, no insurance, and disqualified driving, police said. Credit: Norfolk Constabulary via Storyful
