A rare golden salamander was spotted in a river in central China’s Hubei Province.

The clip, shot in Shiyan City, shows the two-year-old golden salamander being held by a man.

The foot-long amphibian weighs 0.3kg has been named Da Ni.

The golden salamander is a protected species in China.

A local businessman is reported to have said: "I have run a salamander business for 16 years and seen more than 1.5 million salamanders. This is the only survivor that I've seen of five golden-coloured salamanders caused by gene mutation."
