A fast-spreading wildfire broke out north of Redding, California, shutting down a highway and triggering evacuations from several areas on Wednesday, September 5, according to local reports.

The fire, dubbed the Delta Fire, had burned 5,000 acres by the evening of September 5 and topped 15,000 acres by morning. The new fire is just a few miles from the long-burning Hirz Fire, and in an area ravaged by fire earlier in the season, when more than 1,000 homes were destroyed.
