A powerful magnitude-6.7 earthquake rocked Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido on September 6, causing landslides and leading to several deaths.

The quake was strongly felt in the local capital, Sapporo. Videos from the city’s Kiyota Ward show mudslides, cracked and broken roads, and extensive damage to houses.

The Japan Times said that at least seven people were confirmed to have been killed, with at least 32 more missing. Power was cut off in several areas and train services were also disrupted.

Local sources said the death toll was likely to rise as rescue services searched houses buried by landslides. Credit: taka_rr via Storyful
