Cops Bust Illegal Prostitution Ring in Canberra, Find 'Unregistered' Sex Workers

Canberra police busted three brothels in Reid on September 4, discovering one man and three women from Thailand who police say were “working in breach of their visa conditions or without a valid visa”.

Sex work is legal in Canberra but those working in the industry must be registered and are subject to stringent laws.

Footage shows officers entering a property, in a unit block, and discovering the illegal premises, a cramped, untidy apartment.

Canberra city Detective Station Sergeant Adrian Craft said: “To have illegal brothels operating in apartment complexes can be terribly disruptive to residents. Police will continue to target illegal brothels in (the central business district) of Canberra to improve the environment for those living in these complexes.”

It was unclear whether the Thai nationals were victims of trafficking. Credit: ACTPolicing via Storyful
