This year marks the start of the Hot 100 on August 4, with "Poor Little Fool" by Rciky Neslon marking the start, as well as the eventual discontinuation of the "Most Played by Jockeys" chart and "Top 100 Singles" chart on that date. The last "Best Selling Pop Singles In Stores" chart would be on the week ending October 13, 1958. All year-end charts are "Hot 100" year-end charts from now on.
Note the ties where specified as such. This was common until 1960, where Billboard would use "a more accurate charting system to assist the ranking system" as Weekly Top 40 puts it. It's a absent phenomenon from here on out though.
"TW" means total weeks. It's hard to find TW on the Billboard site prior to the start of the Hot 100, so I didn't bother for any dates beforehand.
