Hundreds of New Zealand’s Mongrel Mob gang members and associates gathered at the Parikino marae in Whanganui on Monday, August 27, to pay tribute to slain gang member Kevin “Kastro” Ratana before laying his body to rest.

Ratana was shot and killed in his Whanganui home on August 21 in what was believed to be an attack from a rival gang, Stuff reported.

Stuff said the 27-year-old was a well-loved member of the Mongrel Mob “whanau,” or family, and people travelled from across the nation the pay their respects.

In this video of the funeral, Mongrel Mob members can be seen performing an emotional haka as Ratana’s coffin is carried through the crowd.

Police presence in Whanganui was increased during the ceremony as hundreds arrived from around the country. Police have arrested eight people in relation to the homicide, Newshub reported. Credit: Makavelli Hohua via Storyful
